Loftbusters
Ltd is
Lancashires and The North Wests largest loft conversion
company which currently converts up to 10 attics per
week.
They
developed the original concept of converting an attic into a usable
space for storage, as opposed to a full conversion (proper
stairs / building regulations etc), after customer research had
shown a huge demand for such a service.

They
found that most householders had considered converting their lofts
but had decided not to do so because of the following:
| 1 |
Huge cost
full conversions
start at £15000 and can rise up to £50000 |
| 2 |
Not suitable
they believe they
do not have enough space to make it worth the
investment |
| 3 |
Disruption
many are not
prepared to suffer the weeks of disruption caused by full
conversions |
| 4 |
Reliable builders
many were put off
by stories of building companies letting them down and not turning
up for days on end or not starting the job when stated
etc |
| 5 |
Payment up front
as well as the
above many builders asked for large up front payments or
deposits |
| 6 |
Planning permissions
the cost, time and
hassle of employing an architect and attaining the necessary
planning permissions etc |
| 7 |
Capital outlay
No
actual needfor a fully
serviced bedroom therefore hard to justify such a huge capital
outlay |
Due to
this research it was concluded that there was a desire to utilise
the space in the attic but not enough of a compelling reason to
justify a full conversion.
Loftbusters
then developed their products based on this research and addressed
all of the issues raised above.
In summary their
product offerings enabled the householder to utilise the space
wasted in their attic by converting it into an ‘executive’ storage
space complete with top of the range Fakro wooden steps, a Velux
window, 18mm water resistant tongue and groove chipboard, sockets
& light (if desired) and insulation in between the roof joists
(if desired).
In
order to spread the load and effectively strengthen the existing
joists, they are battened out at 90 degrees to the existing joists.
This also ensures that any cables will not be damaged during the
conversion and that any existing insulation can remain in
place.
As the
conversion is just for storage and is not officially to be
considered a ‘room’, no planning permissions or building
regulations are needed. Obviously what a customer does with the new
‘executive’ space when we leave is at their discretion.
The two
basic products on offer are being continually developed and tweaked
based on feedback from the customer and the experience of the
installers. As well as the 2 basic product offerings (£2000
& £3000) there is an additional ‘menu’ of options which
enables the customer to custom fit their attic dependant on their
needs and desires. One popular example is that a customer may want
to relocate the cold water storage tank or have a second Velux
window fitted or even a second loft hatch.
As
Loftbusters has now completed hundreds of conversions, the
experience gained is second to none and has enabled them to
complete each project more efficiently minimising disruption to the
customer.

They
are currently converting up to 10 houses per week and will be
expanding to other regions accordingly – please visit our
